Join our 2012 Malaysian Sailfish Adventure, with Singapore F1 GP Option!
Ocean Blue Fishing is inviting anglers to join our ‘OB Club’ Malaysia Sailfish Adventure to fish fantastic Kuala Rompin in September 2012.
This adventure offers anglers a great value sports fishing adventure suitable for all anglers. The fishing is during peak sailfish season and offers anglers the opportunity to enjoy this adventure with a unique Malaysian flavour.
Combining this trip with a Singapore stop over for a few days is ideal for anglers travelling with friends or family, and adds further options to the adventure. We are timing this next trip directly after the Singapore F1 GP, a world class street circuit event under lights and the Singapore skyline.
The Fishing Trip
The Sails average in size around 35kg and provide awesome action to anglers on light tackle. The fish here are very active, aggressive and allow anglers the opportunity to target them using a variety of techniques. Casting lures, drifting baits, missing strikes and pulling hooks is all part of the fun experience, Rompin is a destination with plenty of opportunities to refine your angling skills. Other species include spanish mackeral, small black marlin, mahi mahi, cobia and big squid (egi).
The Experience
Each day you will you venture to arguably the most productive sailfish waters in Asia Pacific. With 2 seasons of dry and monsoon, chances are you’ll be fishing well offshore in very calm warm waters, making the trip more enjoyable and easy. Sailfish follow the bait fish and once bait is located the sails (and birds) are never to far behind. Some days it is incredible the number of sailfish you see on the surface, but the bite often comes from the fish you don’t see well below the surface.

Your Lodging
Lanjut Golden Beach and Golf Resort. With it’s own private beach, good facilities and welcoming staff, your stay here will be enjoyable and comfortable. The resort is ideal for anglers, with a bar and restaurant offering international and local cuisine. When you’re not fishing make time for a swim in the resort pool, take on the resorts 18 hole golf course or make your way into town for a visit.
Your Vessel & Guides
The boats used to fish these waters are locally made fibreglass boats between 28-33 ft in length and are powered by single or twin outboard engines. They are long, narrow and fast and all have live bait tanks and GPS units fitted. They are not flash hi-tech gameboats, but are basic, simple and effective boats for these waters. We know the sailfish are the stars of the destination, and the fishing experience is the main attraction for anglers at Rompin.
Getting There
Flights between Australia and Singapore depart most capital cities daily, and take around 7 1/2 hours. Upon your arrival into Singapore Airport, you will be met by an Ocean Blue representative and transferred north into Malaysia, to your resort base at Lanjut Golden Beach Resort. Because of the logistics and approx 4 hour transfer to Kuala Rompin, we arrange a group coach transfer return from Singapore to Kuala Rompin.**
Itinerary: 24 – 29th September 2012
First Day – 24th September
Arrival into Singapore airport, where we will meet with all our group and transfer over the border into Malaysia and up to the Lanjut Golden Beach and Golf Resort, Kuala Rompin.
25th – 28th September
Each day you will be collected from the resort and board your vessel for the run out to the grounds. Here you will use techniques including live baiting, trolling and popper casting to target numerous sailfish in the calm, warm waters.
The abundance of sailfish available is such a drawcard to fishing Rompin, it’s common here to have multiple hookups, free jumping fish, and dozens of shots at fish each day. Other species encountered include marlin, cobia, mackeral, trevally and mahi mahi, making Rompin a very exciting light tackle destination.
Final Day – 29th September
Transfer will be provided from your resort to Singapore in time for your return flight home. The group stops at a restaurant en route for a banquet lunch.

The F1 GP takes place 21st – 23rd Sept 2012, the weekend before our fishing adventure! With its blend of historical culture and modern influences, Singapore really has something for everyone. By day you can see the sights, do some shopping or dine in any number of the city’s great restaurants. Of an evening, experience outdoor markets, incredible bars and vibrant nightlife all within close proximity of your hotel. Experience
Formula 1 GP racing is high octane action, excitement, entertainment, celebrities and glamour! Singapore is one of the most dramatic street races on the F1 calendar, watch the top teams and drivers battle it out under lights. Sample the city’s sights and flavours over an action filled event weekend.
The Race
Enjoy the electric atmosphere as Formula 1 cars reach speeds in excess of 300km/h through the 5km long street circuit. All this takes place of an evening against a backdrop of Singapore’s most beautiful skyline. The showcase event is a night race, filling the air with excitement & sounds of the ultimate machines on Earth.
Grandstand Passes
Best seats are at Pit, Turn 1 and Turn 2 grandstands, these are the best location for you to see all the action. The Corporate Boxes offer great proximity to the track giving you an up-close view of the race.
