The Fishing Trip
Fishing is onboard a 26ft Centre Console at Ouano and a 27ft Rear Console at Nekweta, both fully equipped to put you right in the zone!
This adventure offers anglers a variety of fishing options and the opportunity to experience incredible Bourail, north of Noumea on the remote west coast. The fishing grounds are located within easy access of your accommodation and you will soon find yourself within one of the most spectacular locations in the Pacific.
The Experience
Within the lagoon there are small reef systems, atolls, islands, wrecks and cays, as well as a host of other locations offering a wide range of sports fishing options. Around the reef openings, fringes and bommies are bruiser GT’s and other tackle-crunching heavyweights, making the location one of the most exciting sports fishing destinations in the South Pacific.

Your Lodging
Ouano Fishing & Surf Camp. Ouano offers comfortable beachfront cabin accommodation ideally suited to groups of anglers. After a tiring day spent battling monster GT’s, enjoy a dip at the camp’s pool, before a few beers at the tropical beach bar. Then settle in for a hearty home style meal, over a glass of French red wine or cold beer.
Nekweta Anglers Lodge.
Nekweta is located in Bourail, an hours drive further north of Ouano and offers comfortable traditional island bungalow accommodation in a tropical setting. This family run retreat is superb, offering excellent hospitality, plus excellent food and wine, and is the perfect setting to relax after a day of full on fishing.
Your Vessel & Guide
Fish aboard a custom designed 25 foot centre console offering an excellent fishing platform for up to 3 anglers. Tackle is provided on a replace-if-lost basis, including Saltiga Dogfight reels, custom Illex GT Rods and Orion Lures.
You will be hosted by internationally renowned guide Etienne Picquel. Etienne and his teams knowledge of this unique fishery is excellent, as is the warm hospitality anglers receive during their stay. Our team caters for anglers of all skill level, from novice GT anglers to the most experienced.
Getting There
New Caledonia is a short 2.5 hour flight from Sydney, 1.45 hour flight from Brisbane and 3 hour flight from Auckland. Air Calin, Qantas and Air New Zealand all offer daily flights to Noumea. Upon your arrival into Tountouta International Airport you will be met by an Ocean Blue representative and transferred north to your West Coast anglers lodge.
Itinerary: 23rd – 29th September 2012
Day 1 – September 23rd
Your group will be met at Tontouta airport and transferred to Ouano Lodge, a waterfront cabin resort situated on the peninsular not far from La Foa. This gives anglers a variety of locations to experience and is a great option to include within a trip. Tackle is provided for all styles of fishing for those who do not wish to provide their own, this is on a replace if lost basis. Here you will spend 2 days fishing and 2 nights single accommodation (3 anglers in 3 cabins).
Fishing Days La Foa – September 24th – 25th
After your initial briefing from skipper you will board your vessel and commence your adventure. Within minutes you’ll be fishing around the atolls, lagoons, reef passages, bommies and drop offs found in this spectacular location. While there are a huge variety of sport fish on offer, New Caledonia is really renowned for it’s monster GTs. It’s literally difficult to encounter GTs under 20kg with most in the 20-40kg range. Anglers have regularly landed 50+kg fish with the largest caught so far coming in at 66kg. Light tackle targets include queenfish, bluefin trevally, long nose emperor, rosy jobfish, small tuna’s and a host of other species. Larger pelagics that frequent the waters include spanish mackerel, wahoo, dogtooth tuna and yellowfin tuna. On the jigs there are amberjack, dogtooth tuna, grouper, red bass, coral trout, green jobfish and rusty jobfish, just to name a few.
Fishing Days Bourail – September 26th – 28th
On the afternoon of your 2nd fishing day you will be transferred from your location to Nekweta Lodge about 40min north of La Foa on New Caledonia’s west coast near Bourail. Accommodation for your group is based in a newly-built traditional style 2 level hut at Nekweta Lodge, a cosy anglers retreat just a minute from the beach. Enjoy a great dinner and a glass of French Red or a few ales before settling in for the evening. Here you will spend another 2 days of fishing and 3 nights of accommodation.
Final Day
After breakfast, a transfer will be provided from your resort to Tontouta airport for your return flight.
