Last month, father & son James, Sam and Graham Benson along with good mates Julian Mahood and Ken Jaaback, travelled to Vanuatu for a five nights, four days Sportsfishing experience. All best of friends, and were here to target a variety of fish and have fun along their adventure fishing with OB guide Andrea Traverso.
Seas were calm and they were able to get out to our FAD’s to fish for the elusive yellowfin tuna. Not 10 minutes into dropping their bait, BANG, the outrigger went off and the reel was screaming! Finally they were hooked up! The BANG was big and loud. Average fish landed by each of the anglers during the week ranging from 35kg to 60kg+. On one of the days, James jumped into the harness, the tuna was a good fish with a lot of power. Finally, after 20 minutes or so they saw color, and brought the fish alongside the boat. It was a fatty, 70kg yellowfin.
With saw many yellowfin caught the boys targeted other species to be rewarded with seven different types including, Ken’s bull Mahi Mahi and GT, Julian 18kg Wahoo, Graham’s Coral Trout and Sam’s Rose Jobfish. I am sure these five good friends have returned home with plenty of fish stories to be talked about.
