Last month, father & son James, Sam and Graham Benson along with good mates Julian Mahood and Ken Jaaback, travelled to Vanuatu for a five nights, four days Sportsfishing experience. All best of friends, and were here to target a variety of fish and have fun along their adventure fishing with OB guide Andrea Traverso.

Seas were calm and they were able to get out to our FAD’s to fish for the elusive yellowfin tuna. Not 10 minutes into dropping their bait, BANG, the outrigger went off and the reel was screaming! Finally they were hooked up!  The BANG was big and loud. Average fish landed by each of the anglers during the week ranging from 35kg to 60kg+. On one of the days, James jumped into the harness, the tuna was a good fish with a lot of power. Finally, after 20 minutes or so they saw color, and brought the fish alongside the boat. It was a fatty, 70kg yellowfin.

With saw many yellowfin caught the boys targeted other species to be rewarded with seven different types including, Ken’s bull Mahi Mahi and GT, Julian 18kg Wahoo, Graham’s Coral Trout and Sam’s Rose Jobfish. I am sure these five good friends have returned home with plenty of fish stories to be talked about.

It’s such a relief when having your adventure all planned out!

Leigh Deighton & Jacqueline Cameron, couples fishing adventure took place at our anglers lodge Trees and Fishes between 20th & 23rd May 2016. Their adventure was to be filled with as much “Fishfix and chill” over three days. So here’s how Leigh & Jacqueline  filled up their time with us.

Their guide was Stephen Moderan a Ni Vanuatu with French/Vietnamese descendants fishing onboard our smaller vessel, Edgewater 17ft.  And so began Leigh & Jacqueline’s fishing adventure with three Yellowfin tuna ranging from 42kg to 55kg+ landed on day one including Jacqueline’s 58kg fish.

For some apres dinner entertainment, Leigh & Jeanine had a ball fishing for squid from our jetty using Mia’s rod and managed to bring in four large squids. Those squids were served the following night for dinner.

Day two being Leigh’s birthday, Stephen’s mission was to get him onto a big fish, which saw him land a 50kg+ Yellowfin. That evening the couple enjoyed a celebratory romantic dinner by our waters edge including “happy long life” birthday wishes by the Trees and Fishes team.

Unfortunately all good things must come to an end despite Leigh & Jacqueline not wanting to leave Trees and Fishes on their last day. I am sure this is only a short goodbye for Leigh & Jacqueline who we look forward to welcoming back to our little private piece of paradise very soon.

Thank you for everything! We had the best time and we will be back.

Leigh & Jax – Australia

If any fishing destination is deserving of the term “unique experience”, fishing Vanuatu it is. Best known for targeting a variety of fish species and it’s year round fisheries.

Last month saw Anglers enjoy a truly interactive adventure, experiencing the adrenalin rush of seeing big fish taking surface popper and stick bait as well as adding new fish species to their repertoire.

The island life at the anglers lodge, Trees and Fishes, a secluded little paradise hidden amongst native landscape. An ancient Tamanu tree located near the waterfront fare, where at night guests gather for drinks, exchanging fishing stories of the day’s discoveries and of past trips.

Last month we were privilege to host a variety of guests varying from group of friends, families, couples, single anglers with all looking for the sense of adventure and making memories. Some were novice and some were seasoned anglers with most anglers getting hooked onto that fish of a lifetime.

With our guides job done for another month, see below what some of the guests had to say and their nice catches caught on popper, jigs, stickbait and live bait.

Congratulations to all anglers. Lukem Yu in Vanuatu!

“Sensational way to spend a week. 5 Star operation.”

“We came, We Saw and We Caught.”

Tom Hill – Australia

“An excellent way to tick off one of the “bucket list” items.”

Norway based angler Maciej Rogowiecki from Eventur Travel and his crew visited Trees & Fishes recently, spending a week popping and jigging many of our deeper seamounts and offshore reefs. Maciej said that fishing our waters is like in Norway but only about 50 times faster…lol

Check out their gallery:

When fishing in depths of 100m+, nothing beats that feeling of dripping in sweat, muscles burning and the urge to never give up. The dogtooth’s are simply unstoppable even these anglers 250lb line could not sustain the strength of these beast. The ones that we managed to be pulled off the reef were about 15-20kg, grows up can reach up to over 100kg.

What resulted were some nice GT’s ranging from18kg to 36kg mixed in with all round surface variety including a shark Attack for Matt who pulled off a great fight against a 120kg+ shark yesterday on light gear!

Discovery new experiences and challenges especially when it comes to fishing, is what makes us unique. Ryan Peile, Crispin Irvine, Martin Gordon and Trevor Wilson surely experienced the island life when they travelled to Vanuatu to fish one of greatest waterways within the south pacific.

Ryan, Crispin, Martin and Trevor’s Vanuatu fishing experience surely was an epic tale of adventure and of great triumph. Check out their gallery below:

Fishing our FAD’s saw some catches of yellowfin ranging from 25kg+ on topwater including Trevor’s of 40kg yellowfin and on the bycatch Ryan’s massive rainbow runner which thought to have a king fish look alike.

Fishing for Ruby Snapper in 150+ meters, saw catches of four and five nice fish being landed at a time, thanks to the electric reels. All four thought they had conquered it all, until their experienced our Vanuatu dogtooth.  So hooking them isn’t often the problem, landing them is. An encounter with a decent sized doggie, regardless of outcome, often leaves anglers in mystical awe. Landing a dogtooth despite it’s size will leave you battered and bruised, making them the ultimate sport fish. “No weak links” as best described by Ocean Blue guide Andrea Traverso. I am sure these four anglers can relate to such adrenalin feeling.

Fishing Vanuatu and staying at our anglers lodge, Trees and Fishes especially the service, food turned out to be one of the most extraordinary experiences they’d ever visited.

Peter & Troy Cavanagh (Ocean Blue regular) recently visited us at Trees and Fishes for a 7 nights/6 days all round fishing adventure to celebrate Peter’s 60th b-day.  One of the highlights of the trip was Peter catching a once in a lifetime catch a 15kg spearfish and Troy finally landing his trophy fish, the “GT”.

When it comes to the transition from your body aching from the many hundreds of casts, drops, retrieving to adrenaline, nothing quite beats that moment when you’re hooked up onto something big. And then there’s the “best feeling on earth” when your rewarding catch surface from the water. Peter and Troy experienced an epic week fishing with OB guide, Andrea Traverso, with ample of fish species caught throughout their adventure.

As you’ll see in the pictures some rewarding and trophy fish caught using all fishing techniques and as such best described as an all round adventure.

Once again happy birthday Peter and congratulations to you both on your catches.

Lukem Yu!

Love & Fish what else could anyone wish for?

Here are a few pictures of Kim’s & Richard’s great catches:

Most of us imagine a beach element to our ideal honeymoon, but the perfect beach is different for us all.  That’s why we love creating unique fishing honeymoon that are sure to make your honeymoon unique and an adventure of a lifetime.

We had the pleasure in hosting the new Mr & Mrs Frizell last week for a 7 nights/2 days couples sports fishing honeymoon at Trees and Fishes. Kim & Richard were paired up with Ocean Blue guide Stephen Moderan who soon introduced them to what Vanuatu sports fishing was all about.  The couple hooked up to some great fish including Kim’s 30kg yellowfin on popper.  Great effort by both anglers and we welcome you both to the Ocean Blue fishing family.

“Just Perfection! Amazing fishing, food and staff. We will be back.”

Congratulations to Eric Re from Perth, Australia for landing two blue marlin on poppers this week. The two fish were his first billfish and to manage them on poppers is a magnificent effort. This nice fish was caught on an red & white Halco Roosta fishing with Ocean Blue guide Stephen Moderan and Eric Festa! Great effort Eric!

The whole experience was superb, the service, accommodation and fishing adventure were above expectations. I would not change a thing.
