Highly Recommend – an amazing week – the fishing resort deserving of a Michelin Star
My wife and I stayed at Trees and Fishes for 6 nights in October 2013 as part of a three week trip to Vanuatu (rest of the time we stayed at Paradise Cove Resort - highly recommend also, and Erakor Island - avoid, see our review).Firstly - the resort. Its in a secluded part of Efate, namely Port Havannah. This, together with the very small size of the resort, makes it a very, very relaxing venue. The resort itself is beautiful, some OK snorkelling out front. The rooms are nice, though are more set up for groups than couples (we had a queen size bed and two doubles in ours). That said, the rooms are still very nice, with a great "feature" bathroom. Now onto the food - this was the real surprise - WOW. Dinner consists of three courses - and invariably all three are not only immaculately presented, but sublime. I've never been served food this good at a "beach resort" - we're talking quality which is starting to approach some pretty "name" Sydney / Melbourne restaurants. What makes this even more amazing is the remote location of the resort, the general availability of ingredients in Vanuatu, and how much better the dining is in Trees and Fishes from other all other places in Vanuatu. The courses are typically one seafood (with some real gems like copious quantities of very fresh yellowfin sashimi with a myriad of dipping sauces, grilled dogtooth tuna steaks, mahi mahi curry) one "land animal" (great steaks, amazing chicken curry, etc..) and dessert (my favourite was the trio of sorbets which were amazing). Breakfasts were also worthy of a mention (poached eggs just right, some amazing bacon, simple but outstanding - they really do know how to cook).Service is exceptional (local Janine is amazing, so friendly and helpful, as s owner Angle).Onto the fishing - we had 4 days on the little 17 footer with a guide named Stefan, and it definitely exceeded expectations. Two days were reasonably windy weather so we were limited to inshore areas (with decent fishing - the dogtooth tuna got the better of me - damn they are strong and those pesky sharks....) but the other two allowed us to venture to two FADs - and the result was fishing I've never experienced the likes of - tons of yellowfin, mahi mahi, wahoo, getting sharked, catching sharks (prepare to lose a fair bit of tackle, but all good fun), by the end we couldn't move we were so sore. If you charter the 32 footers you wont be a the mercy of the weather and probably can get the FAD most days I'd imagine. Stefan was a great guide, and a really nice guy. The only fish I'd had on the list to catch which I didn't was a GT (didn't see any) though the ridiculous quantities of every other tropical species known to man more than made up for this!!Whilst not the world's cheapest holiday, its a definite "must do" experience - you won't ever forget the memorable fishing and food. Definitely somewhere couples can go (given the quality of the resort, and the great food - its not just about the fishing, but you wont top that either). Hopefully we'll get to repeat in the not too distant future!!
I’d highly recommend the mother ship operation
I fished with Ocean Blue as a paying punter. Every variable that can be controlled was excellent, the food was great, the boats are awesome, the mood on board was relaxed and happy and the fishing was great! Dogtooth tuna are one of the toughest fish in the ocean on a jig rod, and after being smashed up, wiped out and destroyed by monsters we did manage a few hundred pounders, but I reckon there’s a few double that size that will need sorting out next year. I’ve been to lots of places but this trip was up there with the best of the best and the big cat makes a great mother ship. A five star operation that I have no hesitation recommending, and a totally professional operation. Hadn’t seen Eric Festa for 20 years and it was great to fish with him again!

An Amazing Time!
Just got back from the exploratory expedition, my first time in Vanuatu. We had an amazing time from getting smashed by GTs, Doggies, Coral trout, so much fun. Not to mention living on board Rendezvous a great home to come back too a great time with a great bunch of blokes. Thank you Anthony, Andrea, Eric, Errol, Steve, Tom and Tony for a truly amazing holiday.
Where else would you rather be!
Having spent one of our best weeks fishing at the majestic Trees & Fishes retreat we were blown away by the service and tranquil surrounds the retreat has to offer. Ocean Blue Fishing delivered a range of options for us, we managed to get into some GT’s, Wahoo and the elusive Dogtooth tuna. A compulsory stop at the fads each day sent our Shimano gear into a frenzy as the yellow fin come screaming through, some of the best fun you can have on their amazing Edgewater 32’ boats. The staff are first class and having spent so much time on the playing field, our trip made us feel like we were in heaven. The food is simply amazing with only the freshest catch on the nutritious menu all under a log fire setting, amazing sunsets, glass of red and a few tunes. Where else would you rather be!

Top 3 adventures anywhere in the world!
The total Ocean Blue experience in my top 3 adventures anywhere in the world!
Still Trying for that 50kg+ Doggie but…
Anthony and Angele are great hosts. The "fishing resort" is quite new, only 18 months or so. It is very nice, rooms are quite pleasant and well appointed. The food is fantastic, I went on a diet as soon as I arrived home. Certainly a dining experience. We had dogtooth tuna sashimi....not one but four ways of preparation....just excellent!! But with all of that, we still came for the fishing. The Edgewater 32's are a great fishing boat. The two guides (Eric and Andrea) are attentive and well experienced in the local waters. However, fishing is fishing and luck plays a role. We landed about 20 fish during the five days on the water: GT's (up to 30kg), doggies (a nice middle sized fish and a few doggie heads---aka sharked), a 2.5 meter hammerhead, ocean pikes, and a few wahoo. OK, but slow.....now we have to come back soon. The resort is working on some high class amenities (especially considering it is a fishing lodge) such a yoga, shopping tours, perhaps a lap pool. Definitely worth a visit.
Stunning experience at Trees & Fishes
This is one of my favorite destinations anywhere in the world! We run a sports fishing company out of South Africa, and regularly host off-shore anglers at international destinations. The service and professionalism of the team at Trees & Fishes is of the highest order ensuring an experience never to be forgotten! Set in a beautiful location, Angele and her staff provide wonderful meals fit for royalty and the bungalows are well appointed, private and very comfortable. This is also a premier fishing destination. The lovely Edgwater 32's are well maintained and in pristine condition. Captained by Eric and Andrea - both of whom are excellent Skippers. If you are hunting the mighty Blue Marlin or Jigging & Popping for huge GTs and Dogtooth Tuna, this is the place to be, and these are the boats to be on! We have already booked again for November 2013, and will definitely be back again in 2014. Anthony and Angele you guys run an amazing operation! See you soon.
My first day back in the office after a week of fishing and relaxing with the crew at Trees & Fishes and I feel great. I don't believe there is one holiday that can tick all the boxes but this was pretty much as close as I have come to in a very long while. Needless to say if you are a fishing fanatic the waters of Vanuatu are well known to you for the abundance of species including but not limited to the GT¹s and Doggies which is great. For me the trip was so much more and the staff helped make that happen. As with many of us Careers, family and competing commitments pull us further and further away from the simple love of fishing. If you want to roll back the clock, enjoy the creature comforts of great food and comfortable accommodation, friendly staff and catch some great fish you can't go past T&F and for those of you who have a bit of competitive streak, you can always try to outcast Andrea on a popping rod at one point I thought he was trying to fish Fiji. Great experience and look forward to coming back.
