Sailfish (scientific name Istiophorus<\/em>) is a carnivorous fish that can be found throughout the warm and temperate regions of the oceans. There are two main subspecies of sailfish \u2013 the Atlantic and Indo-Pacific. Sailfish can grow from 5.7 feet up to 11 feet and can weigh between 120 to 220 lbs. On average, a sailfish can live up to seven years.<\/p>\n They appear to have blue-grey colour with white underbellies. They are called sailfish because of their enormous dorsal fin that spreads out like a boat\u2019s sail. Their fin can go as high as the length of their body and much higher than the width of their body. Sailfish is the sport fish you should set out to land if you want a challenge \u2013 or perhaps a headache. To help you out with landing one of these elusive sport fish, here are some tips you might want to consider.<\/p>\n How to Find One \u2013 Sailfish are migratory fish so they are always on the move, looking for prey. So, to get near to one you have to know which part of the year they thrive in a certain location. As mentioned earlier, it\u2019s currently sailfish season here in Vanuatu (between June and August) but keep reading reports as seasons can vary in each fishing location<\/a>.<\/p>\n When it\u2019s time to target a sailfish, you have to position yourself in an area that has a good current around a structure, like a reef or shipwreck.
