Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to fish in some pretty special places, from chasing doggies in Vanuatu to casting for barra in the Northern Territory. With each destination offering different fishing styles, you really need to have the right gear to match your quarry. In January, I was able to get my hands on the new Daiwa Certate 14000 XH, and boy it did not disappoint!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just when you thought Daiwa couldn’t do any better, they released the new Certate range. As many of my Youtube followers know, Brooksy<\/a> loves fishing with stick baits. So, when the 14000 XH arrived, my froth levels were off the scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before we get into the new technology Daiwa have incorporated into this reel, there is one key innovation that really impressed. I am sure the other market leading reel manufacturers will soon follow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every angler who spends a small fortune on a reel generally has to spend another $50 for an aftermarket handle. This can be quite frustrating, when you already spent a considerable amount on the reel. But, everyone will have different preferences on handles, especially when it comes to working a lure, compared to jigging. Daiwa has come to the party with customised handles that perfectly suit both casting and jigging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daiwa being who they are, aren’t about to release a reel without incorporating new technology. Looking at the innovation on the new range, reminds me about the one thing I do love about Daiwa. They seem to have excellent relationships with the anglers they partner with. They always improve their products to the highest of standard and detail, pleasing even the most seasoned angler, who for the most part are not so easily impressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABS longcast<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Now nothing is more frustrating than fishing next to big Arnie and seeing him being able to get his stick bait just a little bit further than me. This is where I’m stoked with what they are calling the ABS longcast embedded in the new Certate range. Daiwa have  re-engineered  the spool to not only be lighter in weight, they have also modified the shape of the spool to give you extra distance with each and every cast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ATD Drag<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The drag system that they brought in on the latest model of the Saltiga has been incorporated into this model of the Certate, along with Daiwa’s automatic tournament drag. With this addition, the Certate uses a new type of grease that has a lower viscosity than other reel greases at rest. Once the line starts getting ripped off by that big GT, the grease viscosity becomes higher. To put it in layman’s terms, the more the fish runs, the more the viscosity builds up. This means the reel puts more pressure on that fish without locking the drag up and slowing the fish down making it easier to turn its head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monocoque<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Monocoque is new and improved. Daiwa have replaced the two-piece body and side plate with a single-piece body and engine plate. This addition gives you access to the main gearing of the reel, reducing flex or twist under load. This improvement keeps this reel completely sealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
