AFTA, Sydney International Boat Show, Postponed due to Covid-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With the latest escalations in COVID-19 cases comes the new surge of event cancellations. The fishing and boating industry has had its share, with a string of cancelled events\u2014the latest being the 2021 Australian Fishing Trade Association (AFTA) show followed by the Sydney International Boat Show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">AFTA Tackle Show 2021<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Australian Fishing Trade Association (AFTA) recently announced that this year&#8217;s tackle show will not happen. According to the announcement made by AFTA President Michael Starkley, the event will be pushed back to August 2022. This is owed to the latest surge in COVID cases in the Greater Sydney area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier<strong>,<\/strong> in April, AFTA had announced that the show will be taking place from July 8-10 at the Gold Coast Convention Centre (GCCC). The earlier announcement detailed certain changes to the event, claiming that it will only be a demonstration and information show to comply with COVID safety guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, the <a href=\"https:\/\/afta.net.au\/trade-show-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">three-day event<\/a> has been postponed. Approximately &#8220;46% of the exhibitors and 33% of the retailers&#8221; are from the same affected area. The border restrictions set up by the Queensland Government to Sydney and Greater Sydney also meant that the exhibitors won&#8217;t be able to make it to the event, so there\u2019d be no show, anyway.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">AFTA 2021 Announcement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Watch AFTA President, Michael Starkley, make the cancellation announcement for this year&#8217;s tackle show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"AFTA 2021 ANNOUNCEMENT\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pL9wvGGAvO4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption>AFTA 2021 Announcement <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Starkley cancelled the show early so the exhibitors can still plan their events accordingly. They announced that all the monies paid out to AFTA for the spaces and tickets have been refunded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AFTA show has been going on since it was first formed in the early 80\u2019s by independent wholesalers, distributors and manufacturers. It was originally meant to protect the Australian fishing industry. It has since then evolved into something that gives Aussie anglers a voice in terms of marine parks and issues affecting them. They also played key roles in the ban of super trawlers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oceanbluefishing.com\/magazine\/australia-scott-morrison-launch-four-phase-plan-against-covid19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Australia Launches \u2018Four Phase Plan\u2019 to Escape Covid-19 Blues<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sydney International Boat Show 2021<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with AFTA, the Boating Industry Association (BIA) also announced the cancellation of Australia&#8217;s Sydney Festival of Boating.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oceanbluefishing.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Article-Content-Image-1280-x-960-43-Medium-Quality-28.jpg\" alt=\"International-Boat-Show-Sydney\" class=\"wp-image-25793\" width=\"697\" height=\"523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.oceanbluefishing.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Article-Content-Image-1280-x-960-43-Medium-Quality-28.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.oceanbluefishing.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Article-Content-Image-1280-x-960-43-Medium-Quality-28-600x450.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 697px) 100vw, 697px\" \/><figcaption>Sydney International Boat Show 2018. Photo by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/152804794@N08\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Quan Pham<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The event, which was originally scheduled at the end of July 2021, was cancelled due to the same health and safety concerns that cancelled the AFTA show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an announcement, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boatinternational.com\/yachts\/news\/coronavirus-superyacht-events-cancelled--42933\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">BIA<\/a> president Darren Vaux said,&nbsp; \u201cCancelling the event supports government efforts to get the current outbreak of COVID-19 and its highly contagious Delta strain under control.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also said that it was a tough decision as the event had been sold out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-center\"><p>\u201cIt was a difficult decision to cancel the event, especially as there was such strong industry support.&#8221; <\/p><p><\/p><cite>&#8211; BIA President Darren Vaux<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the pandemic that&nbsp;started in late 2019, both the boating and fishing industry have exploded within Australia. The boating industry, in particular, has built their campaigns around the boating lifestyle.
