Boston Whaler Celebrates Their 50th Anniversary in Style

Boston Whaler began building boats in 1958. The first Outrage, a 21′ centre console, was launched in 1971. Its safety and stability quickly made Boston Whaler the go to centre console among anglers. Fifty years later, the 420 Outrage Anniversary Edition is a powerful next-gen offshore cruiser with style all its own.

Boston Whaler 420 Outrage Anniversary Edition

When Boston Whaler launched the 420 Outrage in 2014, their new flagship offered all the space and technology an offshore fishing platform needed. It was the largest and best Boston Whaler that the company offered.

The Anniversary Edition is still a versatile centre console, but with thoughtful upgrades that take the 420’s power, style, and fishability to a higher level. That includes revolutionary, break-thru propulsion and an increased fuel capacity.

Boston Whaler specifications indicate the Anniversary Edition shares the same dimensions as the standard 420 Outrage. The 42′ 6″ (13.0 m) LOA and 13′ (3.96 m) beam provide room for up to 20 people.

Unlike the original 420’s quad outboard configuration, this Boston Whaler boat relies on a triple outboard design, powered by three 600HP V12 Mercury Verados. These engines are something special.

Triple 600HP Mercury Verados

With triple 600HP V12 Mercury Verados, the 420 Outrage Anniversary Edition is the most powerful boat in the Boston Whaler collection. Mercury Marine’s most innovative engines use a pivoting gearbox and a series of dual contra-rotating props to distribute the torque.

The engines don’t move, and all the steering happens underwater. That makes docking and close-quarters maneuvering easier. Plus, these engines are quiet running along with top-of-engine access makes maintenance a snap.

With these engines, you get a next-gen DTS 2 multi-engine control system. There’s a one lever throttle on the helm with one-button sequential starting and auto-engine trim.

Mercury Verados come in black or white. But on the Anniversary Edition, you can have them painted to match the hull.

True Deep-Sea Fishing Platform

This great vessel is showing off on a Homecoming Tour that began in August, but orders are being taken now. Boston Whaler recently removed pricing from their website, but since the original 420 starts at $744,000, you can expect to pay more for the Anniversary Edition. That’s still competitive for a versatile centre console of this size, especially when it offers this much comfort and fishability.
