Peace and Paradise – Vanuatu style

2020 has been a never-ending roller coaster of bad juju. An eye-opener in how we, as a species, emotionally react to calamity and crisis.

We’ve been battling with bush fires, pandemics, and racial discrimination. All so calamitous and anxiety inducing that we can’t imagine life being the same ever again.

We know how tough it has been to cope with all the external stresses the current events have burdened us with. Trust us.

Apart from the Covid-19 pandemic shutting down the nation’s main source of income, which is tourism, we’ve also been hit hard by cyclone Harold.

After all the flames have been put out, and everything reaches a sense of normalcy, we will all search for a quite escape where life is simple, and most importantly, normal.

An escape to the tropics. To another time, and another place. A place where phones are put down to absorb the natural beauty of the surroundings, with no anarchy, fear, or anxiety.

If you find yourself ready for an escape to an island paradise, where smiles are abundant and fish are plenty, consider Vanuatu.

Let’s take a look at 5 reasons why you should book an Ocean Blue Fishing adventure once you are ready.

Vanuatu is COVID free!

We are one of the last places on Earth with no confirmed cases of Covid-19.

Our isolation in the South Pacific spared our island paradise from a devastating outbreak.

To remain coronavirus-free, the government declared a state of emergency from March 26.

We closed all ports of entry both land and sea, banning travel between our islands just three days after the last flight left for Australia.

Although we got lucky with the global pandemic, cyclone Harold did not spare us. One of the strongest cyclones ever recorded in the Southeast Pacific, caused catastrophic damage when it struck on April 6.

To prevent the coronavirus from being brought to Vanuatu, officials have banned foreign aid workers from entering the country to help.

Australia, New Zealand and China, flew in aid, but  supplies were quarantined for three days and disinfected for safety.

Banning all types of international travel was a tough call for our economy. But this was what kept us Covid-free until this day.

During the months of isolation from the world, we have been slowly rebuilding.

We look forward to the resumption of tourism sooner rather than later to jump start our economy.

Hopefully, travel resumes soon and we can accept keen anglers and tourists on our piece of paradise again.

We look forward to having you visit us again!

The Fishing

If you’re reading this, you must know about our fishing.

There is no other destination which offers so much diversity. A wide variety of target species, fishing styles, techniques and locations make us a bucket list destination for anglers of all experience levels.

World renowned blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, sailfish and wahoo are available minutes away from the jetty.

This is possible due to the unique volcanic geography we have been blessed with.

Deep drop-offs surrounding the islands act like the baitfish conveyor belts for pelagic species.

Then there’s the topwater casting for giant trevally and jigging for the notorious dogtooth tuna.

Vanuatu boasts incredible numbers of Dogtooth tuna, Blue marlin, Sailfish, Giant Trevally, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Yellowfin and Big Eye Tuna.

And with the help of passionate and experienced guides, you’ll get your fishing fix sorted quickly.

Inshore Red Bass, Coral Trout, Job Fish are abundant. Red barred snapper, cod, deep sea bream and many more species make fishing Vanuatu an anglers paradise.

When you consider the diversity of the species around the islands, the remoteness, awesome scenery, and the overall fishing experience, this is a saltwater fishery truly unlike any around the world.

The Lodge

The Trees and Fishes Anglers Retreat is our version of an angler’s palace.

The accommodations are set within lush tropical gardens with spectacular views of the beach.

The cascading pool, private beach, dining areas, bar and jetty are just a quick stroll away from the suites. The beach is where you want to be to get the best views of the beautiful sunsets we get daily.

When you consider the diversity of the species around the islands, the remoteness, awesome scenery, and the overall fishing experience, this is a saltwater fishery truly unlike any around the world.

Let’s not forget about the food! Meals will be a mixture of international cuisine with a hint of Vanuatu native influence. The menu will change depending on the seasons as all our fresh ingredients are sourced from the island.

Fresh local fish caught daily by our own boats, organic meats, fresh fruit and vegetables are utilized to their fullest.

Add our great selection of International wines, local and imported beers, spirits and cocktails and you’ll wish you could stay forever.

Non-angling activities

If for some unknown and unbelievable reason you are not in the mood to fish, there are other great things to do while staying with us.

Vanuatu is renowned for some of the best diving and snorkeling spots in the world.

You can explore underwater tunnels, caves, grottoes, and underwater wrecks. We also have lush coral reefs and diverse marine life which our guests can enjoy even just by snorkeling.

Kayaking in and around the island is also an experience in itself.

Kayak through freshwater rivers surrounded by a lush tropical forest or paddle in the bays and around the islands over crystal clear waters.

Keep an eye out coral bommies and fish and turtles in the shallows.

Always bring a rod with you. Always.

The boats and equipment

We are proud to have one of the best quivers of boats on the island purposely built for sport fishing.

Our three U.S. built EdgeWater 32-foot Centre Console Sport Fishers offers great fishing space and comfort for up to 5 anglers.

The twin 250hp Evinrude E-Tecs will get you to the fishing grounds fast, maximizing each day for fishing.

There are enough rod holders and storage for all your tackle, and ours, so no tripping over gear.

Electronics-wise, we are kitted with Simrad NSS EVO-3 sounders, we can confidently and efficiently hit our spots.

Then we have our smaller 17 foot EdgeWater center console perfect for couples and smaller groups.

It has heaps of interior room which means more space for anglers, equipment and fish.

Comfortable seating for all on board, loads of storage, a stable deep-V hull, and unsinkable construction allows it to punch way above its weight class.

Top it off with a 150hp Evinrude E-Tec four stroke and you’ll be laughing.

Truly the perfect boat for one or two anglers or couples looking to experience our superb fishery.

A sixth reason?

If the reasons above are not enough to convince you to book a trip with us when possible, then maybe our $10 Stay and Fish Sale will.

We have an ongoing promotion perfect for couples that is running until the end of this month.

The deal is you book your spot on a 5-night, 4-day sport fishing adventure for $3990. Your partner or fishing buddy stays and fishes with you for only $10.

With travel still pretty unsure for the near future, you are left free to decide on your dates later as long as you are able to book by the end of the month.

You can pick dates until December 2022, so there is plenty of time to claim your trip.
