Our Vanuatu fishing adventures are built around staying, fishing and unwinding at Trees and Fishes Private Retreat. Each fishing day takes place aboard our EdgeWater fleet, then guests return to the lodge to relax, dine and prepare for the next day on the water.
We operate a fleet of four U.S.-built EdgeWater 318CC Centre Console Sport Fishers from Trees and Fishes Private Retreat. With room for up to five anglers per boat, professional guides and core fishing gear supplied, our boats give us a practical platform for the fishing techniques we use across our multi-night Vanuatu packages.
The extra-large forward casting deck, aft cockpit, rod holders, tackle storage, Simrad electronics and twin 300hp Mercury Sea Pro outboards support the way we fish. Whether the opportunity calls for popping, stickbaiting, jigging, trolling or live baiting, we can adapt the plan to the conditions and fish activity we find on the day.
Key Takeaways
Our Stay-and-Fish Approach: The Boat Is Part Of The Whole Experience

Our focus is not simply a single day on the water. We create lodge-based fishing adventures that combine accommodation at Trees and Fishes with guided fishing aboard our EdgeWater 318CC fleet.
That rhythm matters. Guests begin each fishing day from the lodge, fish with our crew according to the conditions and return to Trees and Fishes at the end of the session. The rest of the experience happens off the boat: time to reset, enjoy the lodge, share a meal and prepare for the next fishing day.
Our Vanuatu fishing adventures include multi-night Blue Water, GT and Dogtooth, Couples and other fishing-package options. The exact nights, fishing days, inclusions and accommodation are confirmed on the relevant trip page and by our booking team.
The EdgeWater is central to that experience because it gives our crew the flexibility to change the daily fishing program. Rather than following one fixed method, we read the target species, season, wind, current, bait and fish activity, then choose the presentation that gives our guests the best available opportunity.
Why The Boat Changes The Fishing Day
A fishing boat is not simply how we reach the next fishing ground. It is the platform from which we cast lures, work jigs, run trolling spreads, manage tackle and fight fish throughout the day.
A morning can begin with a trolling spread while we search open water. If fish become active on the surface, we may move into casting. If fish are holding deeper, we can shift to vertical jigging. When natural bait is the best fit, live baiting may become part of the plan.
Our EdgeWater 318CCs give us the layout, working space and tackle organisation to make those changes efficiently. The boat supports the fishing plan, but the final decision is always based on the conditions and activity we see on the day. For a broader explanation of our approach, read our guide to fishing techniques in Vanuatu.
“The boat doesn’t decide how we fish — the fish do. Our job is to read the day and let the EdgeWater keep up with whatever that calls for.”

Our Four EdgeWater 318CC Sport Fishers

We operate four EdgeWater 318CC Centre Console Sport Fishers. Each boat is configured to give our crew and guests room to fish, move around the deck and manage the gear needed for a Vanuatu fishing package.
Our current boat provisions include fishing tackle, a fishing guide, packed lunch and fresh water. Package inclusions can vary, so please confirm the details of your selected stay-and-fish adventure with our team before travel.
Casting: Giving Active Anglers Room To Work

When conditions and fish activity point us toward popping or stickbaiting, deck space matters. Our EdgeWater 318CCs have an extra-large forward casting deck, as well as rod holders and storage to keep the fishing area organised.
Popping and stickbaiting are active techniques. A popper creates splash, noise and a bubble trail on the surface. A stickbait offers a more natural baitfish-style presentation when that is the better fit for the conditions. Our crew will select the appropriate presentation and coach you through the retrieve based on the activity we are seeing.
The boat gives us a clear working platform, but the crew determines when casting is the right choice. We may cast around surface activity, reef edges, current lines or other opportunities that develop during the day.
Jigging: Working The Deeper Water
When fish are holding beneath the surface around deeper ground, reefs, drop-offs or FADs, we may move to vertical jigging. The open layout and tackle storage on our EdgeWater 318CCs give us a practical platform for working jigs and keeping the deck organised during an active session.
Jigging can be physical, especially when the fish are deeper or conditions are demanding. We supply core fishing setups and explain the technique before you begin. Guests who enjoy fishing their own gear are welcome to bring personal jigs and terminal tackle to use alongside our equipment.
For advice on the lures and jigs guests may wish to bring, see our Vanuatu lure guide.
Trolling: Covering Water While We Search
Trolling gives us a way to cover water and search for pelagic fish when that is the best approach. Rod holders and tackle storage help us keep the boat organised while we run a spread and watch for signs of activity.
We use trolling as one of several possible methods for species such as marlin, wahoo, tuna and mahi mahi. It is not a fixed promise for every fishing day. We adjust our program to suit the target species, the conditions and the activity we find.
Trolling can also be part of a mixed day. We may troll while we search, then move into casting or jigging when the conditions and fish behaviour give us a more specific opportunity.
Live Baiting: An Option When a Natural Presentation Suits
Live baiting is another technique we use when the opportunity suits. Depending on the day, it can be part of our approach for species such as marlin, Dogtooth Tuna and large Giant Trevally.
As with every method we use, live baiting is a crew-led decision. We do not promise it on every trip because the day’s conditions, bait availability and fish activity guide the plan.
Tackle, Storage And Personal Gear Across Your Stay
We provide the core rods, reels and tackle needed for our fishing adventures, along with professional crew and local knowledge. You do not need to bring your own rods and reels to fish with us.
Many experienced anglers still like to travel with a few personal favourites. You are welcome to bring lures, jigs and terminal tackle that you enjoy using, provided they suit the trip. Our crew can help you decide how to use personal gear alongside the supplied setups.
For your comfort on board, we recommend practical sun protection, non-slip deck shoes, a waterproof day bag and any personal medication or seasickness tablets you may need. Our Vanuatu fishing packing checklist has the full guide.
A Crew-Led Platform For A Changing Fishing Program
The real value of our EdgeWater 318CC fleet is not a single specification. It is the way the boats support a flexible fishing program led by our crew across a multi-day stay.
We may troll while searching open water, cast when fish show on the surface, jig when fish are holding deeper or use live bait when a natural presentation is the best available option. Each fishing day is shaped around the conditions, fish activity and the goals your group has set with us.
We also fish responsibly. Our approach puts catch and release at the centre of sport fishing, while retaining only what our guests and local communities can consume. You can read more about our responsible fishing practices.
