Florida’s Kayak Fishing Queen, Sara Snedal (AKA Sarah Salt)

Some things in life are better on repeat. Fishing is most definitely one of them. Don’t believe us? Ask Sara Salt! The Panamanian kayak and paddle board sport fishing queen from Florida, USA. It is a well-deserved title too, as Sara seems to have scored more saltwater species off her kayak than most people can claim to have caught on board a boat.

In 2017, Sara started to document her saltwater adventures on her Facebook page. She has since become a passionate angler who battles everything from off shore pelagics to freshwater river monsters.

It doesn’t sound like glamorous work, but Sara makes it look great. Watch her reels and you’ll have no doubt that she’s having fun wrestling with challenging the toughest sport fish. Sara Salt definitely beats the notion that fishing’s the domain of men.

Inshore Reds

Red drum, channel bass, redfish, spot tail, red bass or reds—these are the many names for one of Florida’s most popular coastal game fish. It is one of the state’s most widespread sport fish and are available all year round. Sara enjoys targeting these sort after reds when fishing the local estuaries. They are also great eating…so enjoy the mild, sweet flavour of the famous Florida fried redfish.

Mahi Mahi off Islamorada

With the easterly wind pushing the warm waters of the Gulf Stream through the Florida keys, comes the large number of ‘schoolie’ mahi as well as the odd bigger ‘bull’. Summer in Islamorada can be pretty awesome. Feeding frenzy’s are common, so if you’re like Sara and love every reel screaming drag at once, then Islamorada is the place.

Year-end Snook out of Dunedin

Snook are not only one of the most sought after sport fish, but are also a challenging adversary. Why? They are an extremely aggressive species, uncooperative, energetic with great fighting quality. There are 5 species of snook located in Florida waters. They are renowned for their great eating, but do have strict bag limits and seasonal closures. Snook are best targeted during the tide change before sunrise and after dusk. So if you’re in Dunedin, Florida at years end, you may just catch Sarah trying to outwit the elusive Snook.

Jack-pot in Destin

If you’re serious about polishing your topwater fish fighting and fly fishing skills, you certainly can’t go past the Jack Crevalle. The Jack is not a popular eating fish, and commonly discounted as a nuisance fish. For those in the know, Jack Crevalle are far from being a nuisance and a welcome target for extreme anglers. Jacks are a serious fighting fish. Known for their stamina and strength, the Jacks in Florida will give you a hammering. If you see Sarah in Destin on her kayak being towed around you’ll know what’s on the other end.
