PowerVision Underwater Drone: An in-Depth Look at PowerRay

Having the latest fishing tech can give anglers an edge on the water. Great rods, effective lures, and sophisticated fish finders can help you catch more fish. But what if you could turn those arches on your sounder to live images? With PowerVision’s PowerRay underwater drone, you can. Its drone camera gives you a fish eyes view of the underwater world. Here’s what makes it special.

What Is New with PowerRay?

PowerVision has a reputation for building easy-to-fly drones with the latest and greatest cameras. Now, they’re offering what may be the best underwater drone on the market. The PowerRay has been winning praise since it first hit the water in 2017.

A lot of that praise is due to its camera. It gives you clear, sharp images whether you’re photographing stills, recording video, or watching a live stream.

Pair the underwater drone with camera control via the PowerVision’s Vision+ App. Use it to set drone camera controls, watch real-time HD video or switch to sonar. Both the app and the underwater drone are available in the US, EU and Asia.

Fishing By Drone

You thought sonar was helpful? Try sonar attached with a camera that sends a live video to your smartphone.

The optional PowerSeeker Intelligent Fish Finder adds sonar capabilities to the underwater drone. This handy gadget has a 30° detection angle, allowing it to locate fish up to 80m (203 ft.) down. Plus, it gives you data on water temperature, depth, underwater topography. Giving the angler an advantage when discovering new fishing grounds.

The fish finder has six blue, fish luring lights which pair nicely with PowerRay’s bait drop feature. Plus, the underwater drone design includes two 450-lumen front spotlights to help you see the fish in murky water and at night.

Underwater Drone Features

One of the best features of the PowerRay underwater drone is that it’s easy to drive. The remote control (RC) unit has two responsive joysticks. One controls the depth and the other handles side-to-side movement.

The underwater drone maneuvers using three thrusters—two rear and one vertical, allowing it to hover in place. It has three speeds and maxes out at 3 – 4 knots (about 5.5 kph/3.5 mph).

Tethered Operation

WiFi isn’t reliable underwater, so a communication cable tethers the drone is to its base. The cable is available in 50m (164 ft.) or 70m (229 ft).

Should the cable tangle on an underwater obstacle, it can be detached from the drone remotely. Once separated, the PowerRay underwater drone automatically returns to the surface.

Long Battery Life

Lithium polymer batteries power the drone, the communication base, and the RC unit. The lightweight batters offer high energy density and a quick recharge.

PowerVision says you can get up to four hours of drone use on a single charge. But that depends on speed and how much you use the drone camera recording feature.

High-Quality Drone Camera

One of the features that may make this the best underwater drone available today is that it’s equipped with the best drone camera available for underwater use. It takes sharp pictures (12 megapixels), records video (up to 4K UHD at 25 fps), including slo-mo.

The drone camera can also live stream to your smart device at 1080p. Or, for a more immersive underwater drone fishing experience, you can opt for VR smartphone goggles (like ZEISS VR ONE Plus).
