Video – James Baroud: Taking Camping to the Next Level

As much as I like to think of myself as a true blue Aussie camper! Doing the hard yards of finding a clear campsite then the arduous task of having to set up my tent. I’m not! Luckily for myself and alot of Aussies its the way of the past. On my latest fishing trip up the coast, I was fortunate enough to test out the latest rooftop tent by James Baroud.

Time is of the essence

When I look at functionality along with practicality, why should I spend hours setting up only to just pack up? Why should I waste time?

We all go camping for different reasons. Most people go camping to escape the reality of the day to day rat race, whether it’s by yourself, with the family or towing the tinny up the coast to your favourite spot. Regardless if it’s for a long weekend or a few weeks away, most people face the same problems! With most camping trips away, you either leave late afternoon or early morning and have a few hours drive ahead of you. In this day and age why waste time when you arrive setting up.

For me to do what I do and explore new locations, I need to camp out. Luckily for me innovation in the camping industry has come along way. As I am 90% of the time exploring with a boat, I can’t tow a camper trailer, the next best solution for me is a roof top camper. My last trip up the coast, I was luckily enough to fit out the car with a James Baroud roof top tent.

If you are ready to take your weekend getaways to the next level (quite literally), let’s go through why the James Baroud roof top tent may be right for you.

Setting up and packing down

Ask any child who has experienced a camping trip in their time, what the worse thing about going camping is? They will say getting set up!. Picture this, you drive 4 hours to get to spot X, the family friends have arrived and are playing backyard cricket, you pull up and before you can join in the fun, you have to help dad with getting the camp established. Unfortunately, I think even dad doesn’t like it!

With the James Baroud rooftop tent, it is quite literally a 2-minute set up. Each corner of the tent is locked in with an easy-to-use latchet, that once clipped undone will rise into place. The hardtop roof sits tall, with the canvas sides dropping down to finish the process. Aside from a little personal adjustments to make inside, you are done. Yep, simple as that. Let me put it this way – if you arrived on the first ball of the backyard cricket game, you will be taking the catch by the end of the over.

The comfort, once inside

For any family man who lusts for the next adventure, they will resonate with the idea that ‘permission ought to be granted’. For those not following, going away on a family holiday is all but completely dependent on whether your partner will accept what the ‘living conditions’ are like. Lucky for us, the James Baroud roof top tent is the last thing you will have to worry about.

Once inside, the tent offers a safe and secure sleeping arrangement. It has the comfort of a hardtop roof and base, whilst still allowing you to fall asleep to the soundtrack of the aussie outback via the mesh windows. The mattress is thick and extends to all edges of the tent, with no annoying cracks to fall into throughout the night. There is tonnes of storage for those little items you want on hand, with a reading light and fan included in into the design.

Does this mean that every camping trip is now going to be the best experience of your life? No. That will depend on where you decide to go. What it does mean, however, is that the last thing on your mind when going camping will be whether you are going to get a good night sleep.

How it looks on the car

The one thing I have noticed since the introduction of Covid-19 into mainstream society, is the amount of camping equipment you see strapped and bolted to people’s cars these days. From tents, to water pipes, ladders and awnings, I have seen the lot. I must admit, however, not all of them look all that appealing. Fabric covers flying like the Australian flag, rusted out metal bolts – it’s far from ideal.

The beauty about the James Baroud rooftop tent, however, is that once packed down, all you see is the smoothed over hardtop case that sits neat on the car. No moving parts, no fuss – you wouldn’t even think it’s a tent. The tent causes little to no wind resistance when travelling, and packs down neat and securely.

Quality counts

James Baroud

The first thing I thought of when hopping inside the tent, was that nothing was left to chance. The stability, security, comfort, and final finishing touches were all to be seen and experienced. We can put that down to the fact that James Baroud tents are the only European owned and manufactured tents on the market. Does that come at a premium when it comes to getting the wallet out? You betcha. But am I okay playing that extra few dollars knowing that everything keeping me safe and secure at night is of the highest quality. Absolutely.

If you haven’t looked into this type of ‘adventure’, I encourage you to do so. It’s a simple yet adventurous way to see what Australia has to offer! Have a look at the video review
